Have You Ever Heard the Wind Crying?

“Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be
I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings”...

“Have you ever heard the wind crying?”
Poem By Evelyn Rodriguez

Have you ever heard the wind crying?
Have you?
Have you heard it howling
like a sad and wounded
solitary lonely wolf?

I have.

As a matter of fact
I just heard it.
I just heard the wind
through the slit opening
of my windowsill.

Whenever I hear a child
or even a pet cry,
I feel sad.
When I hear the cry
and dragging steps
of the sad soul
of a mourning or sorrowful person nearby
I walk to them and try
to console them somehow
To give them some solace.
I just don't know why?!
_Please love don’t cry!_

But there is nothing I can do
to quiet and calm
the cry of this wind.
It remind me of myself,
in a time like this
many moons ago
when I would cry
and cry
with no consolation,
with no one there for me
to offer me their shoulder to cry on
or show me any consideration
Or been able to comfort me
even if they wanted.

So I nod in understanding
and after some words of solidarity
proceed with my own writings
quietly at my desk
facing the window
while listening to the cry of the wind
as its cry fades away
and subsides
little by little, all by itself...

What would you do
if it comes to you
crying softly into your ears.
I did not questioned the wind.
I did not intervene.
I simply let it be...

Have you ever heard the wind crying?
I have heard it.
And I have cried onto the wind.
I have too cried with 'him'...

The Wind Cries Mary

After all the jacks are in their boxes
And the clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
Footprints dressed in red
And the wind whispers Mary...

A broom is drearily sweeping
Up the broken pieces of yesterday’s life
Somewhere a queen is weeping
Somewhere a king has no wife
And the wind, it cries Mary

The traffic lights they turn up blue tomorrow
And shine their emptiness down on my bed
The tiny island sags downstream 'Cause the life that lived is, is dead
And the wind screams Mary

Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past.
And with his crutch, it’s old age, and it's wisdom
It whispers no, this will be the last
And the wind cries Mary...
